It is impossible to move to the desired state of affairs or the state of sustainable development in water management without providing the requirements and foundations. Iran needs to reflect on the scientific and technological requirements for water sustainable development to realize its sustainable development policy. Making any changes in the field of water management requires current reflection on education and research patterns, technology production, and technological innovation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the future scientific and technological requirements for sustainable water development policy in the country for years and decades to come. The present book has been compiled into five chapters. The first chapter deals with the theoretical foundations of future-oriented science & technology policy-making. The second chapter examines the challenges and crises of the water situation in Iran. The third chapter deals with the study of global experiences in the field of sustainable water management, training in this field, and technologies developed for sustainable water development. For this purpose, the driven forces of this field are studied, then the technologies and projects undertaken in this regard, and finally education and its role in the sustainable development of water, are expressed in global experiences. Chapter 4 focuses on the conceptual and applied literature on sustainable development and higher education for sustainable development. Finally, the purpose of Chapter 5 is to reflect on the scientific and technological requirements for realizing the country’s sustainable development policy in the coming years. Therefore, the most important question of this chapter can be considered: What kind of scientific and technological requirements does the implementation of a sustainable water development policy in Iran need to make it possible?
