Iran, Dr. Akram Ghadimi, Director of Popularization of Science Department of NRISP welcomed the audiences and briefly explained about NRISP activities. In countries like India, Brazil and some country countries, the efforts by several non-state actors in the last two decades have discovered sustained creative aspirations and determination by marginalised people to develop new devices and technologies to solve their livelihood related problems. These innovations respond to the gap created by the market, and the absence of State in certain spheres of the economy. Then Dr. Saradindu Bhaduri and Dr. Hemant Kumar jointly drew a historical sketch of Grassroots innovations. After that a video on GI was showed and in ice breaking session, interaction and mind mapping exercise with the participants were done.

In the second day of the workshop, Dr. Hemant Kumar explained about Grassroots innovations: the theoretical approaches and existing body of research, typologies and models of innovation and institutionalization and grassroots innovations networks in India: a systemic understanding. Then Dr. Hemant Kumar and  Dr. Saradindu Bhaduri talked about measuring grassroots innovations: challenges for innovation research. After that Indian and Iranian participants created a research agenda for grassroots innovations networks in India and Iran to develop a joint proposal for further research and symposium. In the closing ceremony of the workshop, the certificates of the participants were awarded by Dr. Bhaduri and Dr. Kumar.
