Professor Dr. Vahid Ahmadi, Advisor to the Minister of Science and NRISP President in an interview on “science and technology diplomacy” told Daneshjoo News Agency interviewer; science and technology diplomacy is an integral part of achieving authority in the region and scientific development without science and technology diplomacy is not possible. The mainstream science and technology policies announced by the Supreme Leader and National Master Plan as well as the Comprehensive Document on International Relations approved by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in 2017 have emphasized on effective scientific communication with other countries.

Science diplomacy is a major component of scientific development in the world. Given the new approaches in the current sovereignty of the countries in the world, scientific diplomacy is the basis of authority. In the previous times, economic and political issues and trade were the basis of communication between countries, but nowadays, scientific communication and technology are the main means of interaction between countries. In fact, when we say that a country has science authority, it means that it interacts with many countries in various scientific fields. Of course, this scientific communication is not necessarily defined in all aspects. It includes joint scientific- research and technology contracts, the exchange of professors and students, and holding joint scientific conferences and joint scientific regional and international research, such as UNESCO.

When we say science diplomacy, it means; the world without borders, which has formed currently. Today, a professor in his own country sits in his room and conducts a joint research or joint paper with other faculty members in the world. Science, research and technology do not know the border. Both in terms of technology development and media, as well as in terms of the wide range of scientific fields, when one is known in the world of his/her scientific expertise, s/he can be influential in all areas of the world. Because other countries need to use his/her capacity. Note that when we talk about the opening of borders in science diplomacy, it does not mean chaos. But science diplomacy means that we and others can benefit from the advantages in a specific framework.

Of course, part of the science diplomacy is domestic science diplomacy, that is; the ability to establish internal communication between industry and university in a scientific framework which is considered as a kind of science diplomacy. Interactions between industry and university can meet the scientific needs of the industrial sector and the research and experimental needs of scientific centers.

Certainly, with regard to the Resistance Economy, one of the main axis of mission-oriented universities is to solve the economic problems of the country. In this regard, to interact with the industry inside and outside the country is very important. If we believe in the Resistance Economy, which means a knowledge-based economy and a science-centered economy, we must invest in science diplomacy. I'm sure we have a big bargaining chip, because our academic capacity is very high.
