The 2nd. Meeting on the Review of the Activities of Scientific and Research Centers in the Field of Popularization of Science was held at NRISP on Monday, May, 21, 2018 with the aim of designing a pattern for popularization of science and with the participation of Dr. Akram Ghadimi, Director of Popularization of Science Research Group at NRISP; Dr. Elahe Hejazi, a member of the Council of Popularization of Science Research Group at NRISP; Dr. Hossein Sheikh-Rezaei, faculty member of Popularization of Science Research Group at NRISP and representatives from Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences, Institute of Research and Planning in Higher Education , Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies, Iran Science and Technology Museum , Iran National Standards Organization, Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Research Center of Iran, Iranian Research Institute for Information Science and Technology, National Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Science, National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Institute for Cognitive Science Studies and Royan Institute.
At the beginning, while referring to the project on “A Pattern for Popularization of Science in Iran” which is being carried out at NRISP, Dr. Ghadimi explained about the purpose of the meeting; to design and present this model, we need to assess the status quo and the popularization of science activities at the research centers.
Also, Dr. Hejazi explained that last year the First Meeting on the Review of the Popularization of Science Activities was held in the field of book. But, since these activities are not limited to the publication of books and exist in all areas, we managed to change the composition of this meeting in order to examine this issue from a different point of view.
In the continuation, questions were raised about the main activities of the popularization of science in the relevant organizations and institutions and the concept of popularization of science and its place in the structure of organizations, challenges and barriers to the popularization of science activities and how they should be evaluated in order with the secondary analysis of the answers provided, the current status of the popularization of science in Iran could be reviewed and how to design a model for the popularization of science in Iran could be selected, and to answer the question as to whether a single model for the whole country can be provided?
The main point of the meeting was that, in the Statute of most of these Centers, the popularization of science activities were not part of their approved programs.
